Whether you have a long layover, an early arrival before hotel check-in, or a day to explore before a night flight, knowing where to drop your bags at Frankfurt Airport is gold. Here is how luggage storage works in 2026.
Left-Luggage Counters & Lockers
Frankfurt Airport has staffed left-luggage (Gepäckaufbewahrung) facilities and self-service lockers in the terminal landside areas. They take everything from a backpack to large suitcases, and counters can usually handle oversized or awkward items that won't fit a locker.
Where to Find It
Storage is in Terminal 1 (Area B, level 1) and around the terminal arrival/check-in levels. Note: Terminal 2 is closed (its airlines moved to the new Terminal 3), so don't rely on older guides pointing there — check the current location signs or the airport website, and look for facilities at Terminal 3 too. See our complete airport guide for the 2026 layout.
Prices & Hours
- Price: charged per item per day, with larger items costing more; lockers are typically cheaper than the staffed counter for a small bag.
- Hours: long daily hours, but not always 24/7 at the counter — check before relying on a late pickup.
- Payment: card and cash; keep your ticket/receipt safe for collection.
What You Can't Store
Valuables, fragile items and anything prohibited shouldn't be left; storage is for ordinary luggage. Never agree to watch or carry someone else's bag — standard airport security advice.
The Smarter Option for a Layover Trip
If you're storing bags so you can see the city, a transfer that carries your luggage may beat the locker entirely.
Planning to explore Frankfurt on a long layover? Instead of paying to store bags and then dragging them later, a private transfer can take you and your luggage straight into the city and back, on your schedule.
