Whether it is Oktoberfest, a trade fair, or a business meeting, Munich is one of the most common long-distance destinations from Frankfurt Airport. The route is around 400 km — here are your options.
Option 1: Private Transfer
A private transfer via the A3 takes 3 hours 45 minutes to 4 hours 15 minutes depending on traffic — door to door, no changes, no luggage hauling. You can work or sleep on the way, and your driver adjusts the pickup to your actual landing time.
- Journey time: approx. 4h door-to-door
- Cost: fixed price from €592 (up to 3 passengers)
- Best for: groups, families with luggage, business travellers heading outside the city centre
Option 2: ICE Train
Direct ICE trains from the long-distance station (beneath Terminal 1) to München Hauptbahnhof take approximately 3 hours 10 minutes to 3 hours 30 minutes. If you land at Terminal 3, add the SkyLine ride to the station (around 8 minutes).
- Cost: €40–€140 depending on advance booking
- Limitation: station-to-station — at Munich HBF you still need a taxi or S-Bahn to your final destination
Option 3: Connecting Flight
Pure flight time FRA–MUC is only about 60 minutes. But add connection time, boarding, and the journey from Munich Airport (which sits 35 km outside the city), and the time advantage over train or transfer is often minimal — especially with tight connections.
Our Recommendation
For solo travellers with light luggage, the ICE is usually the best choice. For groups of three or more, families, or anyone heading to a specific address, the private transfer is more comfortable and often comparable per person.
